Established in 1927, G.K. Pather Jewellers’ passion and art of jewellery craftsmanship started from humble beginnings. The legacy stems from the lifetime of Gopal Pather, a gold and diamond merchant, who voyaged from Pondicherry, South India during the late 1800’s. Having initially travelled to the shores of Mauritius, Gopal decided better business opportunities awaited him in South Africa and finally settled in the busy CBD of Durban.Heritage

Following in his father’s footsteps, the youngest son Kristnasamy (Kitty) Pather, an artistic designer and manufacturing jeweller began handcrafting pieces, servicing cliental across the economic and cultural spectrum. Originally situated in Madrassa Arcade, Grey Street, Kitty identified and applied his talents to a market requiring unique designs for engagements, weddings and traditional occasions- pioneering a path for forthcoming jewellers to follow. Specializing in gold and precious stones, the business, flourished and moved into a new store located in Victoria Street.Commitment

The business was then taken over by the next generation, Pat and Tootsie Pather, who continued to strive for the hallmark of excellence and quality established by their late father. G.K. Pather Jewellers is now located at The Pavilion shopping centre with an upmarket corporate image and proactive business plan that takes full advantage of its new trading prospects.
